A New Bench

Sunshine Corner, the origin of which name is lost in the mists of the mist that lurks there for at least 8 months of the year, is at a bend of the Scaur river just outside the village. It is a place of popular resort, possessing as it does a little sandy beach and a very large stony beach.

And now it possesses a bench. The bench just arrived, and though I can make a very educated guess as to both the source of the wood and the creator, I don't think there was any formal planning, or payment involved. The bench has come because it would be nice.

Yesterday I was at the interment of a very gracious, interesting man. It was sad, as burials are, but the memory that I am sure will stay the longest is that of eight adult grandchildren holding the cords to lower the coffin containing their grandfather into the grave.

Ooh, I do love the thought of spontaneous bench arrivals. What a marvellous Christmas gift to Sunshine Corner regulars.

Condolences for the loss of your friend.

Beautiful Bench! I would live in a house made by the person who made it. And a very ruminative canine. I am sorry for your loss.

I love when art, as this beautiful bench is, just pops up one day and there it is.

A funeral of friend at any time is very sad but at Christmas it is especially sad. My condolences for the loss of your friend.
Weaver was just at funeral today too.

Titus looks very sad, introspective or plotting and overthrow for taking him out in such cold weather !
Has he been reading the Square Ones posts ?

cheers, parsnip

Good to see pensive pooch. Is he thinking "can I lift my leg on the bench when she's not looking?"

Sorry to hear about your friend. The bench is a lovely thing alright. I love the name sunshine corner teamed with the pic of ice and snow, and the sunny dog!

Eryl: yes! Craig actually saw the pixies that were doing it.

AdtSparker: I believe you can, though I suspect the shipping costs may be prohibitive.

parsnip: thank you. As to dog, I think he was just pissed off that I was making him 'sit' on the ice.

Rachel: good Lord no! He is a dog of sensibility.

Niamh: actually, when the sun is shining it's very lovely. Just that the sun doesn't shine much in these here parts.

Hail the arrival of such a great bench - small things make such a big difference. Sorry to hear about your friend, and yes I can only imagine what the scene must have been like, Christmas is such a tragic time to lose someone you love.
Titus looks sad, hopefully Santa will be good to him:)

I too was at a funeral yesterday - a 91 year old man who has had a full and happy life - so not a sad occasion really.

That dog is so handsome - wish he and Tess could meet up.

Condolences, and for Weaver's friend, too.

We used to sing:

"Sunshine corner, it is jolly fine,
it's for children under ninety nine.
All are welcome, everythng is free.
Sunshine corner is the place to be!"

What a beautiful bench! Makes me want to step through the screen and sit a while.

Speaking of sit...I'm thinking Titus has the look of royalty being asked to sit upon a most uncomfortable spot. :)

Sorry for your loss.

Louise: thank you.
Surely Santa doesn't come for dogs?! Oh Lord, more pressure.

Weaver: and thank you.
If that's a proposal, we accept.

Rachel: is there a tune for that? Do the tune! We love it!

hope: you are right with the royalty!

John: and to you too, the verriest season's greetings.
