Which may have been a blessing in disguise really, as the boys were late to bed tonight, having attended this:
I had been asked to perform a (long) Pam Ayres poem - Merry Christmas - Give Us Your Money. I couldn't quite channel the Berkshire accent, and ended up a bit Somerset crossed with Wiltshire, but it went well.
The concert itself was wonderful - a mixture of carols, vocal solos, violin solos, poetry readings (even managed to get a Canadian to read Robert Frost)(I know, but it sounds similar to us) and there was a video of adventurer and explorer Jock Wishart reading Captain Scott's last letter to J.M. Barrie. I think Jock himself was off getting an OBE.
All was in aid of the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust. The website's here: http://peterpanmoatbrae.org/

Meanwhile, here's a little of Pam herself. One of her finest, I think.
And what with the children being home, the Grave with Lights draw will be taking place later today. With a tarantula. You've got to be in it to win it! See a few posts down.

Look at you in the pulpit. Fire and brimstone! Or fire and hailstones today maybe...

You know, I could just see myself with a little white collar too...
I loved Pam Ayres - I remember she had a poem - Do I still have to be sexy at fifty? - Answer - Bloody right I do!
You do lead an inspiring life, my friend!
And thanks for Pam...I needed a laugh. ;)
I was glad not to be taking Sorley to school in that weather!! Pam Ayer's so funny, I bet you did a great job of her poem.
Socks: don't we all!
hope: glad to be of service.
Marion: I was a bit hacked off as school is literally a stone's throw from us. Boys enjoyed themselves though. We were exploring The Victorians.
Got worse here again now. And lightning!
When the weather smacks you sometimes you have to not fight back go with it.
Here is an idea... lets have a quiet day (please)
Take care.
cheers, parsnip
Yes Joanne - schools are out here although I don't think we had it quite as bad down here as you did. Quite scary.
parship: all quiet today. Hah!
Weaver: we even had a tree blocking our route to Thornhill. I sent the boys out with the dog but they came back screaming, having been attacked by a gate.
Brave of you to attempt the accent. Glad it went well.
fabulous!!
Dave: I found that if you try to read a Pam Ayres poem aloud, it has to sound like Pam Ayres to really work.
Bo: worthy! But fun.
I know it of old: They Should Have Asked My Husband is awesome.
I only found it when I was doing my Pam Ayres research. Made me laugh, especially that 'wrong'.
