Toads, Geese

I'm joining in with the toads this Sunday, who had the fabulous picture prompt below. All details, and other more natural responses, here: http://withrealtoads.blogspot.com/2012/01/photography-challenge-for-sunday.html

The Lonely Cry, by Ken Simm
http://www.kenart.co.uk/index.html

Me? Too many pantomimes this year for sure.

Mother Goose

They will come, the painted ones
to steal your sons with curving tongues,
murmur of meanders, subtle valleys
and that rare peak where air
may only be had with a gasp.
Such ones will spirit your sons,
feather them to fly
in one direction only: away.
No magic, mere apple pie
all you have to lure them
home to graze momentarily.

Though your dough hands
have pressed endless starwort shirts,
you bit your lip
in the face of piercings,
they will migrate again.
Such is nature: let them soar.

This is especially poignant to this mother whose geese have flown.

Verification word was "nesti". Heh.

I think your sons will always come home because they have such a cool Mum! (And Dad too...have to give him some credit)

gorgeous, but am almost crying here - am only thinkin as far ahead as this wednesday when i'm back to work, so this is way away yet...

How wonderful to see two sons in the flight of these beautiful geese.

Karen: apologies! Ah, those empty nestis.

hope: hmmm, not so sure myself. Mind, husband was up at his father's today borrowing yet another ladder.

Niamh: eek, another sorry then. You do have the 'get the out of the house now, go and play, do not argue and do not come back for at least two hours' stage to go through yet, though. Work on Wednesday? Boo!

Kerry: dreaming, Kerry, just dreaming...

I like the "painted ones". Makes me think of you though.. and you're not allowed to steal your own boys!

I really like the evocative feel to this and how it relates to my image.

Great stuff; this actually made me feel better about my emptied nest.

Titus said...

Rachel: yep, I was one of the scary ones.

Ken: thank you, and welcome. All praise to your picture.

Eryl: relief!

My nest is empty, but my girls visit as they can. Love this ode to your empty nest. Beautiful!

"Such is nature - let them soar" says it so beautifully and succinctly! Impressively worded and wisely written!

Titus said...

Susie: thank you, and not quite empty yet. Ten years hard labour left at least.

OT: thank you, and welcome.

Mary Ann: and thank you.

This is quite an interesting analogy. You have some great descriptive phrases.

the place where breathing is a gasp. how we love those places. as do all things winged, how true you are to their spirit to bid them soar.

"let them soar" - absolutely true JoAnne.

I go to my first Panto (and last this year) on Friday evening - just a local amateur do but am quite looking forward to it.

Titus said...

steven: calm down! No premature peaking!

Weaver: thank you, and I hope you have a great time. We Beauty and the Beast-ed as well as Cinderella-ed.

This made me think of my nephews, poised to fly off this next year - one to college & the other to the army. Fortunately only one has a girlfriend, and I like her. So far.

"feather them to fly". Love, love, love that line. You know, there are certain texts where the magic is encapsulated in a couple of phrases and then the whole poem/chapter makes sense and you appreciate it more. Many thanks. That was a bittersweet poem. They will probably "feather" my oldest to fly away in a few years.

Greetings from London.

And again, thank you all.
